An analytical investigation of critical factors to prioritize coalfields for Underground Coal Gasification – Bangladesh case

In recent decades, many countries have shown a growing interest in Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) as potential clean and environmental-friendly means of harnessing coal energy for power generation, production hydrogen, diesel fuel, etc. While Bangladesh may good UCG that can be utilized to alleviate the country's current scarcity, this avenue has remained completely untapped up now. work, possibility implementation five (05) indigenous discovered coalfields country was evaluated first time by using preference selection index (PSI) method. This novel technique considered prioritize gauging potential. The PSI method is chosen over numerous traditional multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) techniques, because it selects best alternative from given alternatives without deciding relative importance between attributes. study indicated Jamalganj coalfield most suitable implementing with 93.6% second priority Khalaspir around 70.0% prospect other three – Dighipara (64.7%), Barapukuria (63.5%), Phulbari (58.3%) suitability decreasing order preference. deduction expected assist cogitation energy-sector researchers facilitate relevant authorities, policy makers, planners, entrepreneurs.
